Make Your Own Tooth Care Products

finished tooth products

Last week we made 2 new tooth products to care for our teeth.  I’ve been wanting to do this for a while, but couldn’t find a recipe that I liked.  The first one was horrible.  It tasted like soap!  These, however, are very tolerable and I feel I can recommend them.

Homemade Tooth Powder

  • 4 parts bentonite clay
  • 1 part baking soda
  • 1/2 part myrrh gum powder
  • 1/2 part ground cloves
  • 1/2 part ground stevia
  • 1/2 part ground neem leaves
  • essential oils of cloves and cinnamontooth powder

Upon our 16yo son’s first use of this, he said it was like brushing his teeth with dirt, but now, about 3 days later, he really likes it.  I can definitely taste the cloves and cinnamon and find it leaves my mouth and gums with a very clean and fresh feeling.

There is also a recipe here which we are going to try.  This recipe is promoted for healing gums, tightening teeth and even healing teeth.

Homemade Mouth Rinse:

  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar (ACV)
  • cinnamon leaf essential oil
  • peppermint essential oil
  • rosemary essential oil
  • tea tree essesntial oil

Other ingredients that can be used in a mouth rinse:  one recipe called for Rum or Vodka in place of the vinegar.  Vinegar is much less expensive.  Others called for fresh herbs boiled in water, but that takes a lot longer and has to be refrigerated.  This recipe I listed does not need to be refrigerated.

My mouth feels fantastically fresh and clean after rinsing with this!

Other herbs that are good for healing and astringent:

  • sage
  • chamomile
  • golden seal
  • anise
  • lavender
  • thyme
  • calendula
  • white oak bark
  • oak bark
  • oat straw
  • comfrey root
  • horsetail grass
  • lobelia

Oh, so sorry :(. You might try peppermint tea or combine peppermint with chamomile. Ginger is also good for the tummy, but not too much. I would do a natural ginger soda and have them sip it. If they can eat, a papaya supplement or fruit would be good. Dry toast is also supposed to be easy on the tummy. Hope one of these will help!
